<abstract xml:lang="ru">

      <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">

This study examines the system of images in Sherwood Anderson's poetry collection "Mid-American Chants" (1918), exploring its influence on his subsequent prose works, particularly "Winesburg, Ohio." The research highlights Anderson's civic message in his poetry, potentially reflecting Walt Whitman's influence. Key images and motifs are analyzed within the context of early 20th-century American literature, revealing both traditional connections and innovative approaches. A correlation analysis of images and motifs yields significant insights, including strong links between grotesque imagery and themes of violence, as well as between hand imagery and motifs of muteness. These connections provide a deeper understanding of Anderson's poetic world and its relationship to his prose. The study demonstrates how Anderson's poetic experience shaped his unique literary style, bridging the gap between poetry and prose in American modernism. By examining "Mid-American Chants," this research offers new perspectives on Anderson's artistic development and his contribution to American literature.
